The Bilal M. Ayyub Research Award for Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems for the Best Paper in Part A of the Journal goes to Bilal M. Ayyub, Ramsay Sawaya, David T. Butry, Yumi Oum and Vincent Loh for their paper “Risk Tolerance, Aversion, and Economics of Energy Utilities in Community Resilience to Wildfires” (DOI: 10.1061/AJRUA6.RUENG-1254), published in the June Issue of Part A in 2024. The Bilal M. Ayyub Research Prize for Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems for the Best Paper in Part B of the Journal goes to Luca Caracoglia for his paper “Improving Output Power of a Torsional-Flutter Harvester in Stochastic Thunderstorms by Duffing—Van Der Pol Restoring Torque” (DOI: 10.1115/1.4065532), published in the December Issue of Part B in 2024. The award will be given during the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE ), held at the Renasant Convention Center, Memphis, TN, November 16–20, 2025. We congratulate the winners with highest appreciation and thanks for their outstanding contributions to the journal. A particular feature of our journal is its multi-disciplinary character, which facilitates the publication of synergetic developments between different communities. In this regard, I would like to draw your attention to some upcoming conferences, which involve our journal as an outlet for publishing contributions across disciplines. I would like to encourage you to utilize this opportunity to network, to establish new collaborative links, to expand collaboration and to develop innovative contributions to the journal out of synergetic connections.

The next opportunities are ASME’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition, IMECE 2025 (Memphis, TN, USA, November 16–20, 2025), the European Safety and Reliability Conference, ESREL 2026 (Braga, Portugal, June 14-19, 2026), the 10th International Symposium on Reliability Engineering and Risk Management, ISRERM 2026 (Sapporo, Japan, June 28-July 1, 2026), the 11th International Workshop on Reliable Engineering Computing, REC 2026 (Dortmund, Germany, September 2-4, 2026), and the 13th International Conference on Structural Dynamics, EURODYN 2026 , September 27 – October 1, 2026, Hannover, Germany). I would also like to announce that the first ESRA World Conference that will be held at Chongqing University, China in April 2027, which offers a broad spectrum of multi-disciplinary opportunities to develop contributions to our journal. I hope to see you at some of these occasions.

EARLY CAREER EDITORIAL BOARD#

Starting in 2020, the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems in its two parts has implemented the Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB)  program to bring young members onboard its editorial board under the mentorship of the journal leadership.

ECEB members typically have a net academic age of 1-3 years. The term of an ECEB member is 2 years with the possibility for renewal into a second term.

New Cycle of the ASCE Journals’ Early Career Editorial Board The goal of the journal is to further welcome two to four ECEB members on the editorial board. Potential candidates are required to have at least six publications within the last 5 years, which may include their Ph.D. study dissertation. The submission deadline is May 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee from the journal leadership. Applicants will be informed about the decision by end of June 2025.
