Editorial Message

It’s my great pleasure to announce that the fundraising for the Bilal M. Ayyub Research Award for Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems has been finalized successfully, and ASCE has agreed to implement this award as an ASCE Society Award with effect from 2026. At this point, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to all donors who have made this endowment possible.
The Bilal M. Ayyub Research Award for Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems recognizes outstanding contributions to modeling and management of risk and uncertainty in engineering systems. All original papers dealing with modeling and management of risk and uncertainty in engineering systems published in an ASCE journal including the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems Parts A and B in the twelve-month period ending with June of the year as set by the due date are eligible. The nomination deadline is November 1 in each year. Our journal management team will support the identification and nomination of high-quality candidate papers.
Further, we have a number of exciting Special Collections and Special Issues that are currently open for submissions, some just announced.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to some upcoming conferences, which involve our journal as an outlet for publishing contributions across disciplines. I would like to encourage you to utilize this opportunity to network, to establish new collaborative links, to expand collaboration and to develop innovative contributions to the journal out of synergetic connections.
The next opportunities are:

Early Career Editorial Board
Starting in 2020, the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems in its two parts has implemented the Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB) program to bring young members onboard its editorial board under the mentorship of the journal leadership.
ECEB members typically have a net academic age of 1-3 years. The term of an ECEB member is 2 years with the possibility for renewal into a second term.
New Cycle of the ASCE Journals’ Early Career Editorial Board
The goal of the journal is to further welcome two to four ECEB members on the editorial board. Potential candidates are required to have at least six publications within the last 5 years, which may include their Ph.D. study dissertation. The submission deadline is May 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee from the journal leadership. Applicants will be informed about the decision by end of June 2025.
